Colleen Zuntag, RH(AHG)
The heart of my herbal practice is rooted in a deep belief in the healing power of Nature. After working with a mid-wife for the birth of my sons 30 years ago, I took my first course in herbal medicine and fell in love with plant medicine. The philosophy that plant medicine is the people’s medicine aligns with one of my core values: everyone should have access to affordable, effective medicine. Plant medicine is one avenue to healing. Plants nurture our vitality, working with the body’s intrinsic ability to heal itself.
Before starting my work as a clinical herbalist, I homeschooled my sons, worked as a health director/wilderness EMT at the Earth Mentoring Institute, volunteered as an EMT in Montgomery County, and worked as a CNA for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services in the public school health room.
I began my formal studies to become a clinical herbalist in 2014. After graduating from the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism, I began practicing in College Park and started a free mini-herbal clinic to support the community. Plant medicine comes from many traditions. My training is mostly in Western herbalism with some focus and further study in Ayurveda. Previously, I was co-director, an instructor, and a clinic supervisor at the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism. Whole plant, herbal medicine formulated for the person and not the disease is the most effective way to work with plant medicine. My hope is to share foundational knowledge of plant medicine so others will have the ability to support their vitality through all stages of their lives. When I’m not working, I love spending time in nature, making herbal medicine in all its forms: incorporating herbs into food, herbal infused oils, syrups, (and more!), teaching, playing in my medicine garden and spending time with dear friends and family.
