What is functional nutrition?

Functional nutrition is a holistic and personalized approach to nutrition.

We work closely with your integrative clinician to assess your lifestyle, genetic make-up, internal and external environments and motivation for change. The result is an individualized plan that restores and maintains optimal health.

Our approach is different from traditional nutrition in a few important ways:

✅ Functional Nutrition:

  • Focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of health issues through nutrition.

  • Considers your unique biochemical, physiological, and lifestyle factors.

  • Views food as medicine and uses it to support the body's natural healing processes.

  • May involve comprehensive lab testing to identify nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and other health markers.

❌ Traditional Nutrition:

  • Views food as a source of energy and nutrients, rather than a tool for healing.

  • Focuses on calorie counting and macro-nutrient ratios (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) rather than the quality and nutrient content of specific foods

  • Does not consider individualized factors, such as genetics, biochemistry, and lifestyle, in making dietary recommendations.

  • Does not address the gut-brain connection or the impact of gut health on overall health.
