CIH History

On a summer day in August 2015, the seeds for Capital Integrative Health were planted at a small café in Bethesda, Maryland. It was there that our two co-founders, Liz Baer, a passionate acupuncturist, and Dr. Andrew Wong, a dedicated primary care physician, first met and discovered a shared vision for a different kind of healthcare.

Liz yearned for a space where patients could access a variety of healing modalities under one roof, fostering collaboration and a truly holistic approach. Dr. Wong, disillusioned with the limitations of conventional healthcare, sought to provide patients with the time, compassion, and knowledge they deserved to truly thrive.

Over lunch, a spark ignited. Liz was struck by Dr. Wong’s simple yet profound statement: “It’s all about love.” This resonated deeply with her understanding of integrative health – seeing the whole person and honoring their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. It was a shared belief in the power of compassionate care to transform lives.

Driven by their vision, Liz and Dr. Wong brought CIH to life, establishing their first clinic in Bethesda. Over the years, CIH has grown and evolved, merging its Bethesda location into the Potomac clinic in 2024 to better serve the community.

As we entered a new chapter in 2025, we are proud to unveil a refreshed brand and a revitalized website. We remain committed to providing the highest quality integrative healthcare, empowering individuals like you to achieve optimal health and well-being.
